This project was an example of floor plan redesign. It was a complete interior and exterior remodel. The home was built in the 1960s and was in need of updating. The designer had us demo the existing interior/exterior walls and ceiling, allowing us to rewire and run plumbing prior to insulation. Due to the existing walls being two by four construction, we decided to spray foam the exterior walls to get them to an R24 and to tighten up the home from air infiltration. This blank slate allowed us to redesign an open and friendly floor plan, one that allowed for entertaining.
We were able to create a bunk room for the grandchildren, a four season porch with windows that make you feel as though you are on the water. The floor plan also allowed for a master bath adjacent the bedroom where you can wake to views of the lake and the sounds of waves against the shoreline.
The exterior soffits once concealed with metal fascia and soffit were opened up to expose the original rafter tails and roof boards. The vinyl siding was replaced with rough sawn board on board siding giving the building a timeless classic cabin feel.
